Rainbow Flag Project

Rainbow Flag Project

The 38th Annual San Diego Pride Flag Raising, Rally, Parade, and Festival will take place July 20-22. The theme for the 2012 Pride celebration is, “America’s Pride”. We are asking businesses, campuses, and individual throughout San Diego County to also display a rainbow flag from their storefronts and homes in the month of July to show support for the LGBT community and proclaim your support of equal rights. The rainbow flag has been a symbol of the LGBT community for 34 years and was first popularized as a symbol of LGBT pride by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. The colors of the rainbow have become symbolic of both the unity and diversity of the LGBT community.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender consumers are well known to be loyal to businesses which are supportive of the LGBT community. A rainbow flag flown from a pole outside, or displayed in a front window, is an ideal way to identify your support for the equality of all people, and to convey to LGBT consumers and their friends, that your business is a place that deserves their patronage. Participating businesses will be recognized by Pride and promoted in the local media as places to shop during Pride Month.
