Dear Community,
I will not hide my fear, I will not hide my pain, I will not hide my anger or joy again, for these are all one in the same. . . And I will embrace them all as I am
As I sit in the summer sun reflecting on Juneteenth and what it means to me in foreground of the landscape before me, I think what can I say when I have no words that could encompass the fullness of my spirit both in joy and pain I can not find but a smile and a hesitating hand.
A smile wrapped in the joy of the power of community and the impact of a shared love, the power and impact of a shared hunger for better, a shared hunger for greater beyond what even the the wildest of our ancestors could dream, a shared hunger for the ABUNDANCE of FREEDOM AND LIBERATION that lives just over the horizon and many times feels out of reach.
The very same reach that feels not without hesitation, fear and pain in the knowing that this fight may not ever end, that these systems will always find a way to cannibalize my existence and my joys, that they will fight tooth and nail to see me be hidden and beaten till I go away.
But as the agitators, the disruptors and innovators and WAY MAKERS before us and this moment in time have always done, i will continue to press on in the joy of knowing that my pain and fears will not go unempowered,that these will merely fuel my unwavering flame, a flame whose light will continue to light a path towards freedom, that this abundant light will ALWAYS find community just as those before me did, for liberation is not a fight we win in a day or a moment but a lifelong commitment to this work we call freedom.
So this Juneteenth give ourselves permission to live abundantly In the fullness of ourselves give ourselves permission to let our fear, our doubts, our angers and our pains fuel our fight and our hunger, BUT ABOVE ALL ELSE let us never forget to give ourselves permission to be ABUNDANT IN JOY, UNBREAKABLE IN SPIRIT, AND UNSHAKABLE IN OUR POWER.
