Fundraiser, relationship-builder, corporate relations liaison – Sarafina has taken on many roles while working for the LGBT and HIV community over the past decade. Her activism began in college where she was taught community organizing by the New York City chapter of the Lesbian Avengers advocating for issues like LGBT-affirmative schools and affordable housing for people living with HIV/AIDS. It quickly became clear that the LGBT community was in need of more advocates - not only in the streets - but also in the boardrooms of corporate America. This realization led her to a career in fundraising serving nonprofits like Boston’s Community Servings and The Center in San Diego. She is grateful to have had the opportunity to facilitate both political and corporate investment in the LGBT community through the production of city-wide fundraisers like San Diego’s AIDS Walk & Run and Boston’s Pie in the Sky– helping raise critical funds for the social service providers that care for the most vulnerable members of the LGBT community. Now, she looks forward to helping San Diego’s corporate partners and community members further their philanthropic goals by investing in San Diego Pride. When she is not busy promoting equality, she can be found digging in her backyard garden with her dog, or cooking at home with TJ, her cherished partner of eleven years.
