Advocating For LGBTQIA+ Youth

LGBTQ+ Youth Standards of Care
In May 2021, the San Diego Community Leadership Council’s Youth Services & Advocacy Committee released the LGBTQ+ Youth Standards of Care, intended for use by and with school districts throughout San Diego County (and beyond).
This guide offers a solid foundation of all the information you need to provide a legally compliant, LGBTQ+-affirming school campus that fosters safety, diversity, and inclusion. The Standards of Care document lays out a set of Standards schools can follow to cover the bases of LGBTQ+ student safety and inclusion in your school community, from the legal to the social-emotional. Each Standard includes research-based explanations of the need for that Standard, alongside suggested steps and resources to implement it in any school campus or district.

Training Youth Organizers & Advocates
LGBTQIA+ youth have far more power than most people give them credit for. San Diego Pride’s youth programs host an annual Youth Leadership Academy in November, offering LGBTQIA+ and allied youth an opportunity to learn and practice leadership.
