Mural Fundraiser!

Help us fund our San Diego Pride Office Building Mural, a tribute to our LGBTQIA+ community.

This mural “The Liberation Ball”, designed and painted by talented local queer artists, @blue.lotus.artpeace and @german_rojas.art, will celebrate the resilience, diversity, and strength of our community. To bring this vision to life, we’re seeking community donations to raise $3,000 to cover essential project costs. 🙏🏼 Gratitude for those who have already donated, yet we are still $2,225 away from our goal… Special thanks to @northparkmainstreet for their generous $1,500 donation that will be added on top of this fundraiser! Link in bio if you would like to support. We are also seeking painting supplies to realize this mural. DM us if you are interested in contributing.

Artists Statement:
“We aimed to create a mural that celebrates pride, liberation, diversity, joy, and local history, featuring key moments of San Diego’s LGBTQIA+ history. With the help of Lambda Archives, we sourced images from past Pride events to showcase the beauty of our diverse community. By highlighting moments of joyful celebration and self-expression in the same space as resilience through pain, oppression, and discrimination, this mural symbolizes not only what our community has endured but also reminds us that we still have more work to do for our future existence. With the support of loved ones and the unified strength in our community, we are stronger than ever to oppose bigotry, ignorance, and injustices.”

Who We Are

About Art of Pride

Art of Pride was first organized in 2005 by community activist Judy Forman (aka Judy the Beauty on Duty) alongside local artist and activist John Keasler to create intentional civic and artistic spaces where LGBTQ artists can freely express themselves and have a venue for community members to discover and enjoy their creativity. The program has historically connected local LGBTQIA+ artists with space at the San Diego Pride Festival to display and sell their work as well as the opportunity to be a featured artist with their pieces exhibited at Pride’s office in North Park. In 2020, Art of Pride became an official program of San Diego Pride and has begun building upon this programming to reach and support more of San Diego’s LGBTQIA+ Artists and those that appreciate their work.

Our Mission Statement:

Art of Pride is a volunteer cooperative of LGBTQIA+ artists and allies centering on the diverse experiences of LGBTQIA+ artists and the artwork they create. We highlight and celebrate the spectrum of artists of color, women artists, transgender, nonbinary and intersex artists as well as intergenerational art. Together, through our art, we foster community connection, combat homophobia and transphobia, and provide art-based education to uplift San Diego’s LGBTQIA+ art communities.
