About:
Rory was born and raised in San Diego and comes to Pride with over eight years of nonprofit administration and management experience. An agile and focused operations professional, prior to joining Pride, Rory was privileged to work with San Diego Organizing Project supporting programming to advance housing justice, protect our border region’s immigrant communities, and pursue local justice system reform across the county. They are a firm believer in the power of people and the critical importance of fostering and celebrating resilience among marginalized communities. They received their BA in Communication Studies with minors in Social Advocacy and Art History from Cal Poly Humboldt and, as a lifelong learner, have continued education through UCSD in nonprofit financial management and accounting. During their undergraduate education, Rory focused independent research projects on gendered violence and presented at the Pop Culture Association/American Culture Association National Conference. Additionally, they served as a volunteer mentor and program director for the Queer Mentoring and Advocacy Program, which provides support to queer youth in local schools. Rory lives in La Mesa with their girlfriend, roommate, two cats, and lots of books. They are a self-proclaimed “genre-maximalist” reader, love movies and DIY music, boulder with the Queer Climbing Collective, and enjoy traveling to visit museums and historical and cultural sites.
