Dipa Mahbuba Yasmin

Pronouns: She/Her

Title: Founder

Organization: Asexual Pride Asia

Bio: Dipa Mahbuba Yasmin is a Human Rights Defender and queer activist from Bangladesh. Her presence will serve as a catalyst for our efforts to address queer rights issues in Bangladesh, particularly those pertaining to asexual rights. Her work focuses on discrimination, violence, and hate crimes against asexual (and aromantic) people. A survivor of acephobic ‘conversion therapy’, Dipa originally began her research to help inform her activism – she sought the evidence to back up her claim that her story isn’t a rare or one-off incident. What she found was an often unspoken, unrecorded problem with violence against her community. Dipa’s passion is the collecting, cataloging, and sharing of these stories. Currently, she serves as Chair of the Board of the asexual organization named Asian Network of A-Spec Queer Activists.
