Moments vs Momentum

MOMENTS VS MOMENTUM

This week, I’ve been asking myself an existential question about San Diego Pride: Is this a moment? Or is it momentum?

In physics, a moment is a localized application of force. Right now, there are so many things blooming within Pride and across our community that fit this definition. From Fabric of Pride this weekend, to Pride Week in July, to our year-round advocacy and programming and our community philanthropy, we are building on a foundation that keeps moving forward, moment by moment.

The moments matter because they create force that pushes things forward. That’s where momentum lives.

At our weekly staff meeting, I asked the Pride team to share what unstoppable momentum looks like for San Diego Pride right now. While I can’t share their full list in this space, here’s a portion of their food for thought:

It means changing to keep ahead of the times…building a foundational organization…pushing through tough moments to create something beautiful… taking time to align so we can move faster and further…coming together to push forward.

Ummm, yum!

San Diego Pride is the epitome of momentum; we’re mass in motion. Impact shows up in the work we do every day to build something that endures the test of time through both tribulation and triumph. Our history shows that when we channel the sheer weight of our community, we drive continuous progress and build change that is difficult to stop or reverse.

I might not be a physicist, but I know the basic laws of our universe and I clearly work with some very smart folx. More importantly, the answer I am leaving with is this:

San Diego Pride is a movement. And the unstoppable force driving us forward is, and will always be, COMMUNITY.

Onward,
