Every year, San Diego Pride relies on over 2,000 volunteers to help us plan and execute the Pride Festival, events, and programs. With over 30 different volunteer departments, there is something for everyone, and we need your skills to execute our city’s largest LGBTQ event!

Festival Leadership Opportunities

Assistant Festival Manager

The Assistant Festival Manager (AFM) assists the Festival Manager (FM) in organizing the two-day Pride Music Festival.  The AFM works with the FM, Pride Staff, City of San Diego police and public safety officials and other Festival Coordinators, in conjunction with the Volunteer Manager, to ensure the two-day Music Festival is safe and fun for both guests, vendors and volunteers.

Transportation Coordinator

The Transportation Coordinator plays a crucial role in guaranteeing that guests and volunteers experience an exceptional journey to the parade or festival via our complimentary shuttle buses. This individual collaborates closely with the Festival Manager and Pride Staff to craft an unforgettable and positive experience, ensuring that all participants embark on a memorable adventure as they begin their celebration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make sure guests get on the shuttle buses in an orderly fashion.
  • Train volunteers on exemplary customer service.
  • Coordinate volunteer staffing at each shuttle stop.
  • Ensure shuttle drop off and pick up locations are set up properly.
  • Confirm with shuttle bus drivers on the correct route to parade and festival.

Water & Ice Coordinator

The Water & Ice Coordinator is responsible for controlling the access to water and ice that is sold and distributed throughout the festival. They will work closely with the Festival Manager, Exhibitor Relations Coordinator, Community Partner Coordinator, and Pride Director of Finance and Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtain the list of vendors from Exhibitor Relations
  • Coordinate with the Community Partner Coordinator to determine which community partners get free water and Ice
  • Work with Pride Director of Finance and Operations on Point-of-Sale system
  • Keep track of Ice and water sales to vendors
  • Ensure your volunteer team delivers ice and water to vendor booths as necessary

Golf Cart Coordinator

The Golf Cart Coordinator works with the Festival Manager, Parade Manager, Pride Staff, and department Coordinators to ensure that only authorized individuals can access golf carts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inventory Golf Carts upon arrival at the festival grounds
  • Verify all potential drivers have completed golf cart training and have a valid driver’s license
  • Ensure golf carts are checked out to correct reservation
  • Keep track of golf carts that have been checked out and checked in
  • Make sure all keys are accounted for at the end of the day

Event Support Coordinator

The Event Support Coordinator collaborates with the Festival Manager and Assistant Festival Manager to ensure the effective functioning of the festival. This role encompasses responsibilities such as festival setup, overseeing volunteer areas during the event, and dismantling the festival afterward. Given the significance of this position, it necessitates adaptability, as the responsibilities may vary according to requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Festival Management team in the preparation and organization of the festival.
  • Allocate volunteers to various essential locations throughout the event.
  • Collaborate with corporate volunteers regarding registration, scheduling, and task assignments.
  • Assist in dismantling the festival, ensuring that all materials are properly packed and stored.
  • Be prepared to undertake a variety of tasks as directed by the festival managers.

Wristbanding Coordinator

The Wristbanding Coordinator is tasked with guaranteeing that all guests aged 21 and over are provided with wristbands, enabling them to consume alcoholic beverages at the various bars located throughout the festival. This individual collaborates with the Festival Manager, Pride Staff, and onsite Security to ensure adherence to established protocols.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaises with the Paid Security to identify guests over 21 years or older
  • Guarantees sufficient personnel at all bar locations to facilitate a smooth distribution of wristbands.
  • Provides training to volunteers on the correct methods for securing wristbands.
  • Makes sure no underage drinking is happening

Sign Crew Coordinator

The Sign Crew Coordinator is tasked with enhancing the festival grounds through the installation of vibrant signs, banners, and vendor identifiers. This individual collaborates closely with the Festival Manager, various Coordinators, and Pride staff to guarantee that all signage is positioned correctly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the inventory of all festival signs and banners
  • Ensure signs are properly displayed
  • Work with Marketing Team to order new signs and banners as needed

Festival Entrance Coordinator

The Festival Entrance Coordinator is tasked with facilitating the smooth entry of all ticketed attendees into the festival. This role involves close collaboration with the Festival Manager and Pride staff to determine layout and staffing needs, and to communicate any changes to regulations concerning prohibited items.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Submit any modifications or updates to the layout to the Festival Manager and Pride Staff.
  • Welcome all Festival attendees as they arrive at the Main Entrance
  • Ensure that all guests pass through the Entrances efficiently and safely
  • Manage crowd control at the entrance lines.
  • Coordinate with Security, Accessibility, VIP and Volunteer teams to ensure clear and supportive protocols.
  • Train volunteers on entry policies.

Volunteer Check-In Coordinator

The Volunteer Check-in Coordinator is responsible for the registration of all volunteers and community partners. This individual collaborates closely with the Pride Village Manager, Festival Manager, Community Partner Coordinator, and Pride staff to align with the responsibilities and vision for the current year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish check-in protocols to facilitate an efficient check-in experience.
  • Collaborate with Pride Staff concerning the utilization of laptops for the check-in process.
  • Distribute meal vouchers to Coordinators.
  • Ensure that all volunteers are provided with volunteer t-shirts and are wearing closed-toed footwear.
  • Assist in maintaining the volunteer database as required.
  • Distribute meal tickets to Coordinators.
  • Acquire an updated list of community partners.
  • Conduct a meeting with the Pride Village Manager and Festival Manager to assess area requirements.
  • Monitor and record instances of no-shows.
  • Submit the final report of volunteer hours to Pride Staff and Festival Managers.

Exhibitor Relations Coordinator

Behind the scenes, the Exhibitor Relations Command Center stands ready to leap into action at a moment’s notice. Specialists will maintain constant communication, reporting issues, monitoring their progress, and ensuring swift resolution. When triumphantly overcoming challenges, specialists will joyfully relay the good news back to their exhibitors, ensuring peace of mind and a seamless experience for all.

Other Pride Week Leadership Roles

Inventory & Supplies Coordinator

Work with our Office Coordinator, Festival and/or Parade Managers, and Production team to create a detailed plan for organization and transportation of our inventory of supplies for Pride events. Manage a storage unit, supply requests from various teams, and ensure supplies get to correct locations to make the Parade and Festival run smoothly.

Volunteer Coordinator Support

Support with various volunteer coordination activities such as setting up volunteer shifts, drafting volunteer emails, recruitment, administrative support, and more!

Queer Joy Captain

Help our volunteer community stay joyful throughout Pride Week! Plan moments of joy for volunteers and check in with our teams to ensure everyone is having fun while working hard!

Receptionist/Office Support

  • Time Commitment: Flexible, a few hours 1-2 days a week during office hours (9-5)
  • Start Date: Flexible
  • Location: SD Pride Office (3620 30th St, San Diego, CA 92104)
  • Possible Duties:
    • Greet guests, answer general phone calls and emails, general administrative and organizational support.
    • Inventory office supplies, restock supplies/snacks as needed, create lists of items needed to be ordered.
    • Light cleaning, changing trash.

Year-Round Program Leadership

Civic Action Team Captain

Join San Diego Pride’s Civic Action Team by being in community and representing San Diego Pride at community events, schools, and planning events to educate the public on the LGBTQIA+ movement.
  • Time Commitment: Flexible, 5-10 hours a month depending on events.
  • Start Date: Flexible
  • Location: Flexible, events occur across San Diego & Imperial Counties
  • Possible Duties:
      • Collaborate with the Outreach & Organizing Coordinator to table at events across the County to share information regarding Pride’s programs, festival & parade, and advocacy initiatives.
      • Assist in setting up and breaking down for events.
      • Brainstorm and plan events that uplift Pride’s Pillars of Justice and educate the public on LGBTQIA+ issues.

Community Building Workshops & Pride Planning Meetings

Our Pride Leadership Team meets every third Saturday of the month at the University Christian Church in Hillcrest. Join us to meet fellow volunteer leaders, participate in valuable trainings, and help plan Pride events!
