Immigrant Day of Resilience

Dear community,
Yesterday was National Immigrant Day of Resilience, a day that honors the strength of immigrant communities while also naming the conditions that make that resilience necessary.

Here in San Diego, those conditions are not abstract. We are hearing about people avoiding hospitals, missing work, and staying home because it does not feel safe to be out in public. That reality is shaping how members of our LGBTQ+ community move through their daily lives.

Resilience is powerful. It should not be required just to exist safely. Too often, resilience is demanded where justice is denied.

At San Diego Pride, this reality is integrated in our work across our pillars of justice. Through Latine Pride, QAPIMEDA, and other community programming, as well as through the artists and storytellers we platform, we are creating spaces where people can show up fully in all of who they are, including at the intersection of queerness and immigration.

That also means taking responsibility for the safety and accessibility of those spaces, especially now.

We invite the community to move with intention, listen to and learn from those closest to the issue, and support organizations doing this work on the ground. We want to recognize the volunteers, leaders, and community members who have built and sustained this work long before us. Our role is to support, resource, and continue creating space where people feel seen, safe, and able to participate in safety and belonging. That is Pride’s commitment, and it shapes how we lead every day.

Onward Together,

Brock & KishaLynn
