Makana’s passion is community building. As a gay man, he has experienced first-hand the power that a truly inclusive space can have. In his work, he strives to create equity and safe spaces for all marginalized people. He is currently the Deputy Chief of Staff and the LGBTQ+ Liaison in the office of Councilmember Kent Lee. He has completed a Schusterman Foundation fellowship for Community Builders and graduated from the Young Professionals Council Academy at the San Diego LGBT Community Center.
