Sarafina Scapicchio is a queer femme who brings over a decade of fundraising expertise to her role as the Director of Philanthropy at San Diego LGBT Pride. Working with individuals, corporations, elected officials, and community stake holders, she has successfully secured millions of dollars in support for nonprofits on both coasts, including: The San Diego LGBT Community Center, Girl Scouts San Diego, Boston Lyric Opera, and Community Servings. Throughout her career, she has had the pleasure of fundraising and managing logistics for multiple city-wide events which have engaged thousands of community members in support of services for people living with HIV/AIDS including: San Diego’s AIDS Walk, Boston’s Pie in the Sky event, and LifeSavor, which has been called “Boston’s Best Dinner Party with a Conscience.” For her dedicated work in the LGBTQIA and HIV communities, she has been recognized with the Barbara Blake Leadership Award in 2009, named Woman of Year at the 2014 Nicky Awards, and given the Toni Puente Equality Award by the Imperial Court de San Diego in 2017. She will be graduating this May with master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from the University of San Diego. She currently holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College, and a certificate in Fund Raising Management from Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy. In her spare time, she currently volunteers as an event committee member for the San Diego Trans Day of Empowerment and the Tracie Jada O’Brien Trans Youth Scholarship Fund. She is also a member of Girls Who Hike San Diego, and completed over 60 miles of trail hiking for San Diego’s City Slicker Challenge in 2018. She resides in Allied Gardens with TJ, her husband of 10 years, and their rescue dog Honeybear.
